Ceiling fan collapse injures 2 students at WB Government school

In a shocking incident at Vaidya Bati Surendranath Roy Girls' School in Shrirampur, Hooghly, West Bengal, two female students sustained injuries when a ceiling fan collapsed during a class.

The incident has raised concerns among parents and students regarding the safety standards in government schools.

The injured students were immediately rushed to the hospital, where one of them received three stitches on her head, while the other suffered severe injuries to the back of her head. School authorities have stated that the injured students will undergo scans to assess the extent of their injuries.

According to witnesses, the fan fell suddenly, catching everyone off guard. Panicked, the students hurriedly left the classroom, and both injured students were given first aid with ice applied to their heads. Following initial treatment, they were promptly transferred to the hospital for further medical attention.

In the aftermath of the incident, an electrician was called to inspect the remaining ceiling fans in the school for any potential safety issues. The school administration expressed sorrow over the incident and assured parents that all necessary measures would be taken to enhance student safety.

However, some parents blamed the school authorities, alleging a lack of proper care and preventive measures. They argued that this incident could have led to a major accident, highlighting a previous incident in which a student was injured after falling from the roof of another school building.

Instances of safety lapses in educational institutions have been a cause for concern in the region. In December of last year, a private English medium school in Raniganj, Asansol, experienced a roof collapse during a dance rehearsal, resulting in multiple student injuries. The school management subsequently launched an inquiry into the incident.
